Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartsphones

New Galaxy S6
Following countless leaks and endless teasers, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The pair of S6 phones succeed the Galaxy S5, Samsung's prior flagship announced one year ago, and will be available across the world starting on April 10th. All four major US carriers plus US Cellular have committed to carrying both the S6 and the S6 Edge, while smaller carriers such as Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, and MetroPCS will only offer the S6. The Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced higher than the standard S6, though Samsung isn’t saying exactly how much either one will be at this point.

The S5 was largely considered a misstep by Samsung: its advanced display and plentiful features were overshadowed by its plasticky build and ho-hum design, and during the course of 2014, Samsung's smartphone profits fell dramatically as a result. Clearly Samsung does not want a repeat of the Galaxy S5 and 2014.

So consider the S6 phones complete reboots of Samsung's top-end Galaxy, a back to the drawing board approach that has resulted in the most visually stunning devices Samsung has ever produced. Where the 2014 S5 looked almost identical to 2013's S4, the S6 and S6 Edge have all-new designs that look and feel significantly different than the older Galaxy devices.

Samsung is essentially splitting its flagship model into two distinct, but very similar designs. The Galaxy S6 has a flat display, metal frame, and glass front and back panels. Its counterpart, the S6 Edge, has all of the above, but throws in a curve to the sides of its front and rear glass, giving it a distinctive character. The curved glass is similar to the curved display and glass Samsung utilized on the Note Edge, but it’s not as aggressive and is found on both sides of the phone instead of just the right. Needless to say, the S6 Edge is the far more interesting looking and feeling phone of the pair.

Both of the new phones are made entirely of metal and glass: the cheesy and cheap-feeling plastics that have dominated Samsung’s products for years are no where to be found. This change can’t be overstated: Samsung finally has made flagship products that look and feel like they are worth the premium price tag they command. The flat S6 will be available in white black, gold, and blue, while the S6 Edge can be hand in white, black, gold, and green.

Samsung’s lead designer on the project says the company spared no expense when it came to materials that they could use in the new phones. The front and rear glass panels are Gorilla Glass 4, and the metal frame is significantly nicer than the plastic used on Samsung’s prior phones (and even the metal frame used in the Note 4 and others released late last year). With Samsung competing in the high-end market against Apple and HTC, both of which use premium materials in their devices, it’s important that Samsung shows it can hang. For the most part, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge do.

Samsung didn’t just focus on design for the new phones either. In typical Samsung fashion, the Galaxy S6 phones are packed with the latest technology:

MICROSD SLOTS, REMOVABLE BATTERIES, AND WATERPROOFING WERE SHOWN THE DOOR

An octacore Samsung Exynos processor (for the international version, Samsung would not confirm what processor the US models will use);
5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED displays;
3GB of RAM;
32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage;
16-megapixel cameras with optical image stabilization;
a new fingerprint sensor in the home button that no longer requires a swipe; an infrared heart-rate monitor that Samsung says also helps the camera obtain accurate white balance;
integrated support for both Qi and PMA wireless charging; fast USB charging that’s 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5;
a speaker that’s 1.5 times louder than the S5’s;
and integrated support for Samsung Pay, which uses either NFC or MFT (LoopPay) technology for transactions.

THE S6 AND S6 EDGE ARE DRASTIC IMPROVEMENTS OVER THE S5, BUT TIME WILL TELL IF THEY ARE ENOUGH

But while Samsung certainly improved upon the Galaxy S5’s design in dramatic ways and upgraded the phone’s technology at the same time with the S6, it didn’t come without cost. Hallmarks of Samsung’s phones, such as removable batteries, microSD card slots, and waterproofing are nowhere to be found on the S6 or S6 Edge. That will likely upset some die-hard users and Samsung loyalists that relied on those features, but it’s clear that Samsung prioritized the phone’s design and its look and feel over things that appeal to a smaller segment of its customer base. Samsung also trimmed back the software features, claiming that there are 40 percent fewer features in the Galaxy S6 than the S5. Overall, the software feels largely the same as before, however. (It's based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.)

Galaxy S6 Edge
It’s easy to see where Samsung took its inspiration for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge: the design is strikingly similar to the iPhone 6 in many places, and the features that Samsung did focus its efforts on are all things the iPhone has had for years. Look at the S6 from certain angles and you’d immediately think it’s an iPhone. Put your thumb on the home key and the phone unlocks almost instantly, just like an iPhone. Even the camera mount protrudes out from the rear of the phone, preventing the S6 from lying flat on a table, just like an iPhone 6. (The flat S6 looks like the lovechild of an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 6, while the S6 Edge is a little more distinctive.)

Samsung has be known to copy Apple’s design before, which led to record sales and record-breaking lawsuits. It’s hard to say if the Galaxy S6 will bring about any lawsuits, but the similarities between it and the iPhone 6 are undeniable.

Better Smartphone OS in 2014 Market Between Apple's IOS7 and Android's KitKat

Article on Better Smartphone OS in 2014 Market Between Apple's IOS7 and Android's KitKat Mobile Operating System. It seems that each year, Apple and Android go head to head with new operating systems each designed to outdo the other. This year, it is Apple's iOS7 going up against Android's KitKat operating system. While both systems are relatively new, iOS7 is used by roughly 80% of the Apple market share while KitKat or 4.4 is currently on just over 1% of all Android devices. Of course, KitKat is still relatively new compared to iOS7 with the other "Jellybean" version still being used on nearly 55% of all Android devices.

The truth is that each operating system has its own advantages, iOS7 is very well designed for the iPhone 5S, especially in the number of useful features which makes using this device quite fun. Conversely, KitKat has added a new dimension to smartphones, particularly the Samsung Galaxy S4.

What follows is a compare and contrast of each operating system as it is applied to their respective mobile devices. What can be stated almost immediately is that iOS7 and KitKat offer some unique advantages in virtually every category.

Applications

This is really about Apple vs. Google app stores and the over one million applications that they currently offer. Here is a list of 10 android apps every android phone should have. However, iOS7 can access open files that are stored on Google Drive, iCloud, SugarSync, Box and Dropbox. KitKat however can only access Google Drive. Clearly, the edge belongs to iOS7 system here.

User Interface

iOS7 represents a significant redesign from the previous Apple operating system. Here, simplicity is the order of the day with fewer, more colorful vector-based icons and a definite minimalist design approach. KitKat on the other hand simply looks liked an improved version of its predecessors. The drop down notifications and settings menus are now merged so that it is easier to switch between them.

Safari vs. Chrome

Here, both types of systems offer similar results with differences that actually help balance both out in terms of features. Safari supports MPEG-4 videos while Chrome uses WebM for example. One interesting difference is that Chrome uses swiping in from the edges to switch the tabs being used while Safari can go forwards or backwards between pages. There are innumerable differences, but overall each has its own distinctive advantages.

Manageability & Security

Here, iOS7 offers greater security since Apple checks all the apps at their store while Google does not. As far as manageability goes, each system has their own advantages. The Apple Configurator supports all the latest iOS7 enterprise features while Google does have a number of enterprise features for its KitKat system as well, including many of its older systems.

Accessories

While most Android devices use a micro USB port to charge, newer Apple products now have a Lightning port to charge. Up until recently, both Android and iOS devices could have been charged using cheap cables from China. Most people bought these cables from sites such as eBay. However, since Apple released iOS7, the cheap cables now do not work. iOS7 recognised officially licensed peripherals such as cables and car charges, meaning that cheap peripherals, which are not officially licensed, now do not work leaving many people unable to charge their Apple devices. There are, however, low cost officially licenced iPhone 5 car chargers that work perfectly with iOS7.

Conclusion

Both Apple's iOS7 and Android's KitKat operating systems have advantages that can be quite useful and helpful. The decision may come down to which system you prefer overall, either Apple or Android, instead of iOS7 or KitKat. Still, each does have its virtues and is well worth purchasing.

Google Glass - The Next Frontier For Human Communication

In the last century, a few innovations have metamorphosed the way we communicate. The humble desktop computer, the World Wide Web and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, are certainly part of this influential list.

Google Glass introduced by Google little over a year ago, can prove to become another such game changer.

Google Glass – How does it work?

Google Glass is the first of its kind wearable technology, with looks and functionalities that merge hitherto science fiction with reality. Designed like reading glasses but without the lenses, Google Glass has a small prism on the right side that works like a computer screen. Driven solely by voice and gesture commands, Google Glass can be used to record and share live images as seen from the eye of the wearer, as well as view and search online information. The device connects via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to the MyGlass App on Android and iOS devices.

Google Glass literally has the potential to transform the way we view, access and share information. Here’s a look at some of its everyday uses -

Imagine you are flying a plane and sharing the actual experience as you see it with your friends, with the visuals captured through Google Glass and streamed live via the internet; Read the menu in a foreign language and have it translated to your language. This feature would be incredibly handy for the average international traveller. A satellite navigation app on Google Glass could make it much easier and safer for the driver to see the route and drive at the same time. Purely from a perspective of improving human lives, facial recognition if enabled on Google Glass, could assist medical causes such as helping Alzheimer’s patients recollect faces. The hands-free feature could render wide scale benefits for improving human productivity, enhancing workforce efficiencies, and improving day-to-day lives. Doctors being able to view patient statistics without having to take their eye off the operating table and using Google Glass view for conducting trainings are some of the ways in which the device can improve medical outcomes. In fact, Philips Healthcare and Accenture are already in the midst of using Google Glass technology for delivering efficient patient care.

How can you buy Google Glass?

While the possibilities for application development for this exciting technology are many, Google has not yet started mass selling the $1500 headsets. As per Google, the technology is still in the formative stages and therefore the device is as of now, only provided to a select group of people under Google’s ‘The Glass Explorer Program’. So far, 10000 men and women of the global development community have been allowed to buy it.

Google Glass application development

The Google Glass mobile application ecosystem is called ‘Glassware’. In November this year, Google released the Glass Development Kit (GDK) opening up several Glass features allowing app developers to access sensors in the device, create voice commands, and install third party apps, which until now had been restricted.

While it is nearly impossible to test an app for Google Glass without owning the device, Google is encouraging mobile app developers to start developing mobile applications for the digital eyewear. Since 80 percent of the Google Glass code is Android based, the understanding from Google is that the android applications can be optimised post Glass’s consumer launch.

Rather than merely recreating the mobile device user experience on Glass, Google wants developers to build apps that truly add value to users. Some of the interesting Google Glass mobile applications that have already been developed include:

Allthecooks - allows you to flip through the pages of a recipe as you cook without using your hands. GolfSight - calculates distances and can be mighty handy for the avid golfer.
Wordlens - not only translates the foreign language text but also replaces it with the language of your choice. The Fancy a high fashion and luxury goods store has developed a mobile app that allows users to click any image they see in the real world and matches it with a product that has similar design or colour. Google Glass application development restrictions However several aspects are holding back large scale Glass app development. Developers state that the caginess of Google in allowing complete access for Glass application development options (particularly software) restricts development of mainstream consumer applications essential to widen the device’s appeal.

In its bid to keep privacy advocates at bay, Google has restricted facial recognition apps. An intentional 10-minute delay in geo-tagging images, poor battery life, and absence of prescription lenses are some of the other concerns. More importantly, currently there is no business model for Google Glass app sales.

It is expected that Google will start selling Google Glass by 2014. Businesses that see themselves as pioneers must be ready with apps for this fascinating wearable device.

7 Wireless Trends For 2014

I remember the days when wireless was about free phones, basic phones, just talking, and about getting wireless service based on what worked where you lived. These were the days where texting was unheard of - consumers just wanted to pick the phone up and actually make a phone call. These were also the days where people didn't want to access the internet via cell phone; and social networking wasn't even a thought in people's minds yet. Marketing consisted of networking physically, making phone calls, and sending emails (via an actual computer, not by cell phone).

This certainly isn't the case any longer. Social networking is the fastest way to connect with anyone anywhere in the world; more consumers have Smartphones than basic phones; people expect to be able to access the internet, their social networks, and email on the go with their phones and tablets; and consumers expect to pay for their Smartphones - no more free phones.

This is why I am so in awe of cell phone stores who still have Free Phone signs out front. Is that outdated sign really bringing in any customers at all? Okay, maybe a couple... you know... the one's who are going to deactivate in a month because they want a cell phone, but don't want to pay the bill...
FYI - if a customer is truly looking for a free phone, sell them on prepaid. This way, when they deactivate in a month it won't hurt your commissions, or increase your deact percentage.

In any case, there are some predictions for 2014 in the wireless industry that I think you'll find we are certainly on track for.

Wireless isn't going anywhere. As a matter of fact, wireless is getting stronger and stronger with the tablets, netbooks, Smartphones, etc. that are used to connect people, businesses, consumers with businesses, and businesses to businesses on a 24/7 basis. If your company hasn't jumped on the technology bandwagon... you'd better do it quickly before you're left out in the dust.

Wireless data plans will be important. As wireless is used so much more in the workplace, so will data. Ensuring the right data plans are selected for employees will be very important to ensure that employees will have consistent access to data and to ensure the bills don't become outrageous from overages.

Social Media is not going to slow down. Consumers are moving from one social media outlet to another on a fairly consistent basis, especially kids. Kids don't want Mom and Dad to be spying on their online activity, so as more parents enter the social media world their kids are changing to new social media outlets for their privacy. Tabs should be kept on current social media outlets to ensure your marketing efforts are focused on the right outlet where the users are in your target demographic.

Mobile apps for companies will become more prominent. As mobile devices are used more and more to connect everyone, more companies will create their own apps so their customers and employees have the ability to connect with the company quicker (and in a mobile-friendly manner). If a customer can't connect with a company wirelessly, there's a likelihood that the customer will just find a competitor they can connect with on their mobile device.

M2M is growing, and isn't going to stop. As Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology allows companies to take advantage of e-commerce and retail solutions via a mobile device that otherwise would not have been possible. As of November 2013, there are more than 190 million M2M connections already. By 2017 that number is estimated to triple. All I can say is... get on board now.

BYOD. More employers will allow employees to bring their own devices to use for work purposes. Most employees really hate the technology given to them by employers to use because it's often outdated, runs slow, or just doesn't work right. Employees would rather bring in their own cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. to use because not only are they comfortable with their own devices, but they are usually the top-of-the-line devices. By the way, BYOD programs generally increase productivity and reduce technology related costs for the employer.

Increase in the role of IT in the business. As wireless and wireless devices evolve and become the core of the business unit, IT will have an increased responsibility to work with each department to a) determine the technology needs of each department, and b) to develop or find and implement the tools for a seamless process.

There are many more 2014 predictions available, but these are just a few of the ones that will likely hit home for most small and large businesses.

Unspecified Best Secret Key Features of iPhone 5S revieled

Some Unspecified Best Secret Key Features of iPhone 5S revieled. The smartphone industry witnessed a major transformation when Apple first came out with iphone, a new generation smartphone, named. Back then, phones without keypad were not considered to be a possibility, but iPhone demonstrated that the touch screen was enough to be the sole input panel. The screen size was larger than any other phone, and it ran on the extremely powerful and sophisticated operating system - iOS. Over the years, newer versions of the Apple iPhone have arrived, and every time, the new device has been able to surpass the expectations and beat the competitors on the basis of innovation, style and sophistication.
iPhone 5S is the latest version of Apple's iPhone series, and was launched in the year 2013. It succeeded iPhone 5 with enhanced features, but as per the norm of being a revised version, it maintains the same structure and design. However, the biggest enhancement with iPhone 5S is the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 7. With this new version, Apple has made some major changes to the mobile's user interface, and added several new features to the core functionality.
However, the most talked about feature about iPhone 5S is the finger-print authentication technology that can be used to authorize the user's activities. The redesigned home button can detect finger prints and authorize payments such as App store and iTunes purchases. Branded as Touch ID, a user can store up to five finger prints on a secure chip of the device, and use any one of them for authentication purpose. This has been devised with the objective to make passwords redundant, at least partially.
Additionally, there is other hardware optimization, which includes the introduction of a M7 processor that takes care of sensor inputs such as gyroscopes and accelerometer. M7 takes the load off the main processor, thus allowing core features of the phone to run faster. Additionally, it has been claimed to be the first smartphone to have a 64-bit processor, which makes it two-times faster than other phones in the market.
Apart from the core device and the innumerous features, what makes Apple phones stand apart is the huge range of accessories that it comes with. Apart from the leather cases, iPhone 5S comes with an 8-pin dock that replaces the larger 30-pin docks that came with the previous versions. Additionally, iPhone owners could also opt for Earpods, which are specifically designed for the new version and enhances the overall sound quality.

Is it a Good Decision to Buy a Cheap Tablet ?

The sales volume of tablets have been on the rise over the last few years, which is mainly due to the general acceptance among the public and the vast range of advantages it provides. Firstly, since tablets have a larger screen size, it is easier to execute certain computing tasks and view multimedia files. Moreover, some of the new generation tablets can now be used as laptops through docking ports as well. However, the popularity of tablets have spawned the manufacturing of several devices across the globe. Apart from the popular device makers such as Samsung, Asus, LG and HTC, there are several other local manufacturers in Asia and elsewhere who have released several tablet devices that are cheaper than the premium ones.

Top manufacturers like Samsung and LG always produces devices that have excellent design and conforms to every possible international standards. Moreover, the brand itself demands a royalty, which is why the price is always on the higher side. On the other hand, cheaper tablets match these manufacturers based on the features available. There are several Android tablet manufacturer that provides devices that have similar or better features than models like Nexus 7, and yet would be marketed at half the price of the Google's laptop.

While it is obvious that cheap device makers use local electronic components and are not the best by design standards, but what ultimately matters to the end users is the cost efficiency. If the tablet can provide all the features that are expected from the latest devices, it is always a good investment decision for the buyer. Although one may argue that these devices may not last as long as a reputed tablet would, but even in such a scenario, one gets to upgrade models and keep in touch with the latest technologies, without having to shell out a lot of money every time.

In conclusion, a cheap tablet is a good option for people who want to be updated with the latest trends in the smart device industry. However, one must be extremely careful while choosing a cheap tablet as not all of these devices can provide a decent performance over a long period of time. It is important to set the expectations before looking out for a tablet. The operating system version is an important factor to be considered, apart from other specifications such as the screen size, processor speed, memory and the storage capacity.

The HP Envy Rove 20

It looks like a massive tablet and packs in a battery on-board, which lets you move it from room to another without interrupting what you're workingon or watching.

Yet, don't try to use this like a laptop on your lap and try and work done..

This thing is clad in brushed aluminium and is particularly heavy at 5.5kg.

The HP Envy Rove 20 is somewhere in between - a mobile all-in-one, if you will - and as the name suggests , this device is meant to rove from one
room to another , from one family member's use to another's.
Making this journey possible is a large metal kickstand that props the device up for a regular
PC style use , or tucks away to lie the Rove 20 flat on the tale for community use, viewing videos, playing boward games and the like.

With specs that are more notebook than desktop PC, the Rove 20 is a capable device for everyday use, though I'd have to say I was disappointed a device this large
didn't ship with a full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel display.

The touch responce for the screen is pretty good though. The Envy Rove 20 is an intriguing form factor from among the dozens we'd have seen for Windows 8 devices, and one that makes a lot of sence within a home.

At it's current price though, t's likely a lot of folks will prefer to pick up a PC/Laptop and a tablet over this "Do it all device."

National Security Agency broke into Yahoo, Google, Facebook, MS Hotmail

The National Security Agency and its British counterpart have apparently tapped the fiber-optic cables connecting Google's and Yahoo's overseas servers and are copying vast amounts of email and other information, according to accounts of documents leaked by former agency contractor Edward J. Snowden.
In partnership with the British agency known as Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ, the NSA has apparently taken advantage of the vast amounts of data stored in and traveling among global data centers, which run all modern online computing, according to a report Wednesday by The Washington Post. NSA collection activities abroad face fewer legal restrictions and less oversight than its actions in the United States.

Google and Yahoo said Wednesday that they were unaware of government accessing of their data links. Sarah Meron, a Yahoo spokeswoman, said that the company had not cooperated with any government agency for such interception, and David Drummond, Google's chief legal officer, expressed outrage.

"We have long been concerned about the possibility of this kind of snooping, which is why we have continued to extend encryption across more and more Google services and links," Drummond said in a statement. "We do not provide any government, including the U.S. government, with access to our systems. We are outraged at the lengths to which the government seems to have gone to intercept data from our private fiber networks, and it underscores the need for urgent reform."

In a statement, the NSA did not directly address the claim that it had penetrated the companies' overseas data links. But it emphasized that it was focused on "foreign" intelligence collection - not domestic - and pushed back against the notion that it was collecting abroad to "get around" legal limits imposed by domestic surveillance laws. It also said it was "not true" that it collects "vast quantities" of Americans' data using that method.

Companies like Google that operate Internet services - including email, online document and photo storage and search queries - send huge amounts of data through fiber-optic lines between their data centers around the world. Those data centers are kept highly secure using heat-sensitive cameras and biometric authentication, and companies believed the data flowing among centers was secure.

But Google said last month that it began the process of encrypting this internal traffic before reports of NSA spying leaked during the summer and accelerated the effort since then. Google security executives were suspicious that outside parties, like governments, could tap into the cables but did not have hard evidence that the spying was occurring, according to three people briefed on Google's security efforts who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The NSA could physically install a device that clips on the cable and listens to electric signals or insert a splitter in the cable through which data would travel, said Nicholas McKeown, an expert in computer networking and a professor at Stanford. Or, he said, someone with remote login access to the cable's switch or router could also redirect data flowing through the cables.

Level 3 is a company that provides these cables for Google, according to a person briefed on Google's infrastructure who was not authorized to speak publicly.

In a statement, Level 3 said: "We comply with the laws in each country where we operate. In general, governments that seek assistance in law enforcement or security investigations prohibit disclosure of the assistance provided."

In July, the company denied a German television report that it had cooperated with US intelligence agencies to spy on German citizens using its network.

The New York Times reported in September that for at least three years, GCHQ had been working to gain access to traffic in and out of data centers operated by Google, Yahoo, Facebook and Microsoft's Hotmail. The program, described as having been developed in close collaboration with the NSA, was said to have achieved "new access opportunities" into Google's systems by 2012, according to GCHQ documents provided by Snowden. But it was not clear what that meant.

The Post said that under a system code-named MUSCULAR, GCHQ was storing data taken in from the interception in a rolling three- to five-day "buffer," during which the two agencies decoded it and filtered out information they wanted to keep.

It also reported that the NSA was using about 100,000 "selectors" as its search term filters - more than twice as many, it said, as the agency has been using from its Prism program inside the United States. In that program, the agency collects emails, search queries and other online activity of foreigners abroad from Google, Yahoo, and other companies through a court-approved process authorized by the FISA Amendments Act of 2008.

GCHQ documents obtained from Snowden by The Guardian newspaper and shared with The Times reveal an intense focus over several years by British spies on the development of MUSCULAR and a closely related project code-named INCENSER. The documents suggest that both programs are to a large extent driven by NSA intelligence needs and are highly prized by the Americans.

In November 2010, the British wrote that "MUSCULAR/INCENSER has significantly enhanced the amount of benefit that the NSA derive from our special source accesses." Those projects in some cases provide data that are unavailable from any other source, one document said, "highlighting the unique contribution we are now making to NSA, providing insights into some of their highest priority targets."

BlackBerry may abandon smartphone business

Those few BlackBerry lovers left could be in for some bad news.

The device that was so addictive that it was dubbed the "CrackBerry" might not have much of a future: Its new chairman and interim chief executive says he wants to emphasize software and services - not devices. That could mean the company might ultimately get out of the business of selling smartphones.

The possible change in strategy comes as Fairfax Financial, BlackBerry's largest shareholder with a 10% stake, said Monday it won't buy the struggling smartphone company and take it private. It said that instead Fairfax and other investors will inject $1 billion as part of a revised investment proposal.

CEO Thorsten Heins is stepping down and John Chen was appointed chairman of BlackBerry's board of directors and interim CEO. Chen, the former CEO of software data company Sybase, said that BlackBerry employees need to start thinking differently about the company and accept that "we're really not in phones but we're in phones for software, for services.''

Chen said he wants to find a CEO with a strong software and services background.

He noted that BlackBerry Messenger, BlackBerry's popular messaging application, has been downloaded by more 20 million users since it became available on Google's Android and Apple's iOS platforms last month. BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, works like text messaging but doesn't incur extra fees.

"I'd like to find somebody to help me monetize that," Chen said.

Colin Gillis, an industry analyst at BGC Financial, questioned whether that's possible.

"It's like Apple saying we're going to stop making phones and we're going to become an iMessage company," Gillis said.

Gillis said BlackBerry might indeed stop selling phones but noted BlackBerry is already obsolete. He doesn't think current BlackBerry users have to worry though.

"They are not just going to shut the lights off," Gillis said.

The decline of the BlackBerry has come shockingly fast. In 1999, BlackBerry became a game-changing breakthrough in personal connectedness. It changed the culture by allowing on-the-go business people to access wireless email. President Barack Obama couldn't bear to part with his BlackBerry. Oprah Winfrey declared it one of her "favorite things.''

Then came a new generation of competing smartphones, and suddenly the BlackBerry looked ancient. Apple debuted the iPhone in 2007 and showed that phones can handle much more than email and phone calls. In the years since, BlackBerry been hammered by competition from the iPhone as well as Android-based rivals.

This year's much-delayed launch of the BlackBerry 10 system and the fancier devices that use it was supposed to rejuvenate the brand and lure customers. It did not work. Waterloo, Ontario-based BlackBerry recently announced 4,500 layoffs, or 40% of its global workforce, and reported a quarterly loss of nearly $1 billion.

"Sadly I think they are already out of the business after the BlackBerry 10 flop," said Mike Walkley, an analyst with Canaccord Genuity.

Walkley said he believes BlackBerry will focus on its mobile device management business, which allows IT departments to manage different devices connected to their corporate networks

After teaching the world to type on tiny buttons, BlackBerry could soon be leaving the business of making phones - leaving fewer options for a vocal minority still committed to phones with its once popular physical keyboard.

"It's not good, not good at all," said Gord Rosko, the president of GR Communications, a consulting firm in Edmonton, Alberta.Rosko said he had used BlackBerrys for about nine years.

"What I call my fat Polish fingers have a hard time with touch-screen keyboards," he said. "So I'm going to keep using this thing until I can't anymore."

The possibility that BlackBerry would exit the handset business was only reinforced, when the company announced disastrous financial results, including a quarterly loss of nearly $1 billion. BlackBerry had warned last week that the results would be bad, heightening expectations that it would put less focus on handsets.

In the past few years, most smartphone users have switched to touchscreen models, like the iPhone, with virtual keyboards that appear on a glass screen.

That has left few good alternatives for people like Rosko, especially beyond BlackBerry.

Charles Golvin, an analyst at Forrester who tracks the handset market, said most phones with buttons were inexpensive models aimed at teenagers. Most use slide-out keyboards, but those add extra weight and heft. He offered simple advice for people sticking to a physical keyboard.

"The way you now interact with phones is through touchscreens. Get over it," he said. "Maybe the message isn't just get over it; it's give touchscreens a chance."

Still, the chances that some company will try to pick up BlackBerry's single-digit market share are good. Ted Schadler, Forrester's vice president and principal analyst, said he expected some companies to experiment with keyboards.

"Then there's a big question mark of whether people will go for them," he said.

The experiments may actually come from the companies that overtook BlackBerry in smartphones.

Samsung Electronics, whose Android-based phones are a leader in smartphone sales, has already offered phones with physical keyboards. But more important, it is aggressively going after professionals who were the first adopters of the BlackBerry and who appear to disproportionately remain its final users. This year it introduced Knox, a set of security features for Android aimed at government and corporate users.

Motorola Mobility, as it rebuilds itself under Google's ownership, might also re-enter the keyboard phone market, too. Before the Google takeover, some of its most popular Android phones included a slide-out keyboard.

Golvin said he was skeptical about any company trying to build a high-end smartphone with a physical keyboard. BlackBerry's method of combining a screen and keyboard significantly reduces screen size, he said. The smaller screen often requires developers to tweak their apps to work on the different size, making some reluctant to make apps that work on the phones.

ut more important, Golvin said, is that the overwhelming majority of smartphone users have spoken and found that the downsides of on-screen keyboards - namely, more typos - are outweighed by a variety of other advantages.

While there remains a chance that BlackBerry will continue to churn out handsets, the company's results Friday underscored how big of a challenge that would be. Because the handset business requires a large sales volume to be profitable and to sustain development, many analysts expect BlackBerry to focus its remaining resources on software and services for corporations.

That strategy could change if the company is sold. The company's largest shareholder has made a tentative and conditional offer to buy the 90 percent of BlackBerry's stock it does not own. But many analysts expect BlackBerry to soon leave the business of making phones regardless of the owner.

The loss reported Friday mainly reflected a $934 million write-down of a growing inventory of unwanted BlackBerry Z10 phones, the devices that the company had hoped would restore its fortunes, as well as $72 million in charges related largely to layoffs.

The $1.6 billion in revenue during the three-month period that ended Aug. 31 was much less than the $3 billion that analysts had expected and reflected a 49 percent drop from the first quarter,

Phone sales were just as bad during the period. While BlackBerry said that 5.9 million BlackBerry phones were sold to customers during the quarter, many were from inventory that had been shipped to wholesalers and carriers in an earlier quarter. During the last quarter, BlackBerry shipped just 3.7 million phones. And most of those phones, the company said, were older models that it plans to phase out.

Still, there are the devotees, like Jonathan M. Lindsey, a public affairs consultant in Phoenix.

"I am concerned that I'll have to change the way I do my work," he said.

He said he had tested both an iPhone and an Android phone, and found that neither allowed him to type as quickly as a BlackBerry or manage his email as effectively.

But Lindsey, who said that he was in his early 30s, said that after eight years, he was resigned to the fact that the physical keyboard may soon become a thing of his past.

"I'm not opposed to going through the process of adapting," Lindsey said.

iPhone 6 Launch date and Specifications with A7 SoC chip system

iPhone 6 Concept
Following the launch of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and iOS 7, here we came with all of the iPhone 6 release date, specifications, news & rumours. Updated with new  rumours and information on the A7 SoC

Everyone's eyes are currently on the brand-new Apple launch event, which should see the last products that are going to be released this year. While the iPhone 6 isn't going to be among the list of products, by seeing the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display we'll get a better idea of what Apple's been working on for its new iOS device.

From the information we have from the recently launched iPhone 5s , iPhone 5c and iOS 7, we should get a better idea of what Apple is planning for its next smartphone, the iPhone 6.

Of everything that we know now, the biggest bit of information is that the iPhone 6 is going to have a larger screen than the iPhone 5S. Although sales of the iPhone are high, the Android competition has all moved to large-screen Full HD models, with the HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4, so it makes sense for Apple to compete on screen size.

In this article we are talking about all of the iPhone 6 rumours. We'll give you all the current information on the release date, price and specs.

iPhone 6 Release Date:

Guessing Apple's release dates is a complete expert's work, with practically every prediction wrong. It's clear, given that the iPhone 5S was only released in September, that we're not going to see the iPhone 6 until 2014 now ( I think).

Apple usually has products on sale for a year, but the iPhone 6 feels like a different proposition to us. Rather than a replacement for an existing iPhone, it's more of an addition to the new line-up. We kind of see it replication what Samsung has with the full-size Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, with the exception that Apple's small phone, the 5S and 5C is still really powerful.

Tim Cook said. "Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can’t wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014," Cook also said. As we know now, the products Cook was talking about are being released on the 22nd October and include the iPad 5 (iPad Air) and iPad Mini 2.

That would seem to be it for 2013, so we're going to have to wait until 2014 for the iPhone 6.
If you will ask a date, we'd say that early next year, between March and May would make sense. This would give Apple enough distance from the iPhone 5S, and give it a chance to take the glorylight away from Samsung, which will be looking to release its Galaxy S5 ( Probably with this name) handset around the same time.

iPhone 6 A7 SoC:

At this time, the Apple A7 system-on-a-chip (SoC) is the main focus for the Apple company. This is the first 64-bit mobile chip and it's extremely fast. In fact,  n using the iPhone 5S, we found that the A7 is by far the fastest mobile processor. Apple has now used the A7 chip in both the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display (Newly Launched).

Where as in the past Apple had to tweak the graphics part of the SoC to work on an iPad's screen by adding Quad-Core graphics with the A6X. With  A7 this isn't required. Instead, the A7 is fast enough as it is.

Keeping that in mind we would expect to see the same A7 chip used in the new iPhone 6. However, the only caveat is when the phone comes out. If it's early next year then we'd expect the A7 chip to be used as is; if the release date is closer to the end of next year, then we might see a tweaked version of A7, maybe a quad-core variant.

Sony SmartWatch 2 Vs Samsung Galaxy Gear

Sony’s new smartwatch, which is named the "SmartWatch 2", has been a known quantity since its official announcement in June,2013 at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, and now the Samsung Galaxy Gear has been itemized by its creators in Berlin at IFA. Means it’s time for the two, to square off in our segment of champions for a spec and feature showdown.

Sony Smartwatch specs :

  • 1.6-inch, 220×176 display
  • Aluminum body
  • Micro USB charging
  • Compatible with most Android phones
  • NFC and Bluetooth 3.0 for connectivity
  • 3 to 4 days battery under normal use
  • $262 U.S , Ships in late September
  • No camera, mic or speakers

Samsung Galaxy Gear specs:

  • 1.63-inch, 320×320 display
  • Stainless steel body
  • Snap-on, proprietary USB 3.0 charger
  • 800MHz Exynos single-core processor
  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE
  • Compatible with new Galaxy devices, previous gen Galaxy support coming soon
  • Around 1 day of use
  • 4GB of onboard storage
  • $299
  • Ships in September (October for U.S.)
  • 1.9 megapixel camera, 720p video recording, speaker + 2 mics
  • Gyroscope and accelerometer for workout tracking

The SmartWatch 2 isn’t cheap at $262; in fact, it’s the same price as the popular 8GB Nexus 4 model. Samsung’s is $299 and much more full-featured, with Samsung managing to pack a whole host of A/V equipment in its device. It also runs a number of Android apps out of the box, which have been redesigned specifically for the watch.

SmartWatch 2 does have NFC for easy pairing with Android devices that support this feature, as well as more battery life, a better, higher resolution screen, and water resistance, that should keep your device protected from general grit and submersion at 3 feet for up to 30 minutes. Sony’s also doing a big push for bringing third party apps to the SmartWatch software platform, which could help fill the gap there.
As you can see from the list of specs above, there’s not really much of a competition between the two devices in terms of features.
Sony’s SmartWatch 2 has an edge in battery life owing to its much more narrow feature set, and it offers wider support for other Android devices out of the box.

With the more ambitious vision coming from Samsung. Aside from the steep requirement of apparent  platform lock in, I’m definitely much more intrigued by the Gear, but I also suspect both devices will find a mostly limited receptive audience among consumers.

What is your view?

Soundmatters announced DASH7 bluetooth speakers

Soundmatters DASH7 bluetooth speaker ( Ultra Thin)

When it comes to high quality portable speakers, there are many names out there in preasent market. The thing is, the selection process can be rather tricky – so why not pick one from Soundmatters? The name of the company itself is pretty self-descriptive, as Soundmatters was founded by former NASA engineer/audio legend Dr. Godehard Guenther. Recently, they announced that they will be shipping what is deemed to be the world’s slimmest, lightest high-fidelity Bluetooth Speaker, simply known as the DASH7.

The Soundmatters DASH7 happens to come in the form of an extremely flat 0.75” high wireless pocket-portable Bluetooth soundbar as well as speakerphone which will deliver huge omnidirectional sound despite coming in a thin size which will slide into the slimmest purse or jacket pocket. Is this the world’s best travel speaker? That remains to be seen, but frequent travelers who have given all sorts of different portable Bluetooth speakers a go in the past might want to check out the Soundmatters DASH7 and share their opinion on it.

Apart from that, the DASH7 will also feature a 5th generation twoofer and BassBattery for true hi-fi sound, where it is accompanied by an angled stand for direct on-axis high resolution music, which results in a great soundstage with the best stereo separation for serious music listeners. You will be able to pick it up in a choice of three colors – Vibrant Red, Arctic White, and Midnight Black.

The omnidirectional sound that it offers makes it ideal for watching movies or music videos, and it will also include a combo case and stand. The angled stand also offers even higher resolution on-axis listening, while there is a noise cancelling speakerphone that will allow you to answer incoming phone calls even while you are listening to music or movies.

The asking price for the Soundmatters DASH7 stands at $249 a pop.

Battletank Desk Pet lets you de-stress at the office

Battletank Desk Pet

All work and no play is said to make Jack a dull boy, and I guess when the proverbial Jack grows up to be a man, he too, would be dull if he were to be a cubicle drone all day long. Perhaps there might be something which can be done to make Jack’s life a whole lot more interesting and fun despite trudging into the office earlier in the morning? This is where the $49.99 Battletank Desk Pet would play a role – literally, as these high-tech battling toy robots would be controlled by a compatible smartphone, bringing the old and new together in a simple amalgamation of ideas.

All you need is a pair, and they will react (adversely) to one another. Compatible with OS devices and Android devices, the Battletank Desk Pet is the ideal way to settle office disputes. The “winner” would be able to get his or her way, as your enemy’s tank spins out of control and slows down to a stop after you register enough successful hits. All you need to do is to plug in a small dongle into the headphone jack, allowing the smart toys to move around, “fire,” recoil, and react to the shots of other Battletanks. The Battletanks are powered by an internal battery which can be charged via USB. 40 minutes of charge time would result in 15 minutes play time.
