He is just 23 years old, but the record of world's fastest ODI century is now in his name. He is Corey Anderson from New Zealand.

Before this record was on Shahid Afridi's name. Where Shahid Afridi made hundred runs in 37 balls ( Before 17 years), Andarson made in just 36 balls and snatched away the record of Fastest ODI Century.
14 over boundaries and 6 boundaries helped him to reach 100 in just 36 balls, where he hit a Big Six on the 36th ball.

Corey 14, jesse ryder 5 and Captain Maccullum hit 3 sixes , which makes of total 22 sixes in one match , which is also a World Record.

Corey Anderson joined Jesse Ryder in the middle when New Zealand were on 84 for 3 wickets. Ryder  came back in the team after a long time off the field in 2013 .
Ryder  was on 41 at the time when  Anderson hit the 14th over boundary to complete 100.

Anderson’s innings was impressive ,  very impressive – with his contribution to the time.
He did what the New Zealand team required most, and he did his job to the fullest. One can ask no more of a player than this.
But if that is the qualification for a great innings, then one has to consider one final factor.
One man has been overshadowed by Anderson, but  performed to his fullest, did exactly what the team needed, and couldn’t have done it better.

Since Afridi’s record happened 18 years ago, some will go with Afridi’s by a mile.
Bats have improved out of sight, on top of that, with 20-20 around, players are used to throwing the bat and smashing it to all parts. On top of that, Anderson’s is essentially a 20-20 score, with it being scored off 21 overs, he really had no choice but to come out swinging.

What Afridi did as a teenager in our eyes will stand forever.
The greatest thing about cricket is that opinions are so utterly diversed. The fact that Afridi’s record was in a longer innings could be interpreted many different ways.

Really, the two are probably done a disservice through comparing them, they are similar in lots of ways, but equally they are completely opposite from others.

Records are made to be broken, and it has been. It was a marvellous innings, good on Corey the new record holder.

Injury plauged Barcelona continued to set the pace at the top of La Liga after first-half penalties by Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas set them on course for a comfortable 4-0 home win over Mam Granada on Saturday.

Iniesta opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 20 minutes, while Fabregas doubled the score five minutes before the break.

Granada had Manuel Iturra dismissed after 66 minutes of game play.Alexis Sanchez and Pedro scored the other goals for the champions, who were also missing Xavi and goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

New chess word champ Carlsen lives upto his reputation after being pushed into a swimming pool in Chennai on the night he defeated Viswanathan Anand.
Reffering to game 3 on November 12, Carlsen told The New York Times in a Skype interview on friday night : " What I realised during the game was that he(Anand) was nervous and vulnerable. He was no superman."




In the news conference after the match, Carlsen was asked if chess could have other than niche appeal, given the interest in the championship. His answer was
modest : " I know a ot of people who don't play chess found it very intresting to follow."

Sports previews of Tuesday's eight games on matchday four:

Group A

Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) v Bayer Leverkusen (GER)

Both these sides suffered league defeats at the weekend -- Shakhtar going down 2-0 at Volyn Lutsk, which was the third defeat on the road for Mircea Lucescu's men, while Leverkusen were embarrassed 1-0 by rock-bottom Eintracht Braunschweig to fall four points behind Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen's fit-again Lars Bender, who signed a contract extension in midweek, received a late red card for his second bookable offence while Stefan Kiessling, Sidney Sam and Heung-Min Son were all on the bench at the start.

The Germans won the first tie between the two sides last month, a comprehensive 4-0 home win which put them on six points, one behind Manchester United.

Shakhtar, who were quarter-finalists in 2011, have not beaten a German side at home in Europe since seeing off Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1980/81 UEFA Cup.

Real Sociedad (ESP) v Man Utd (ENG)

United can virtually ensure their last 16 place with victory in Spain after a 1-0 home win over Sociedad, playing in the tournament for the first time in 10 years, in Manchester moved them onto seven points from three games.

But David Moyes's side have doubts over the fitness of Jonny Evans, Rafael da Silva and Tom Cleverley, who were all replaced at half-time in Saturday's 3-1 win at Fulham.

Sociedad have scored just once in three Champions League games so far and are without a point but warnmed up for Tuesday with a confidence-boosting 5-0 home win over Osasuna.

Jagoba Arrasate's side are looking to avoid setting a club-record sequence of four straight defeats in Europe.

Group B

Juventus (ITA) v Real Madrid (ESP)

Real Madrid have nine points from three games after a Cristiano Ronaldo double ensured a 2-1 win over Juventus last time out and they need just a point in Turin to make sure of a last-16 place.

Nine-time winners Madrid have scored in all their last 19 Champions League away fixtures, losing only four but Juventus have won the last five meetings between the sides in Turin.

Juventus are in third place and with that position in mind coach Antonio Conte rested Andrea Pirlo in Saturday's 1-0 win at Parma before the veteran midfielder replaced Claudio Marchisio.

Ronaldo has scored seven times for Real Madrid in the Champions League this season just one off the record held jointly by Ruud van Nistelrooy, Filippo Inzaghi and Hernan Crespo.

On Saturday, Real beat Rayo Vallecano 3-2 with a Ronaldo double and a Karim Benzema header as Gareth Bale laid on two goals for the second consecutive game.

Real will be without left-back Fabio Coentrao after he limped off with an ankle injury. Xabi Alonso is also a doubt but Raphael Varane will return at the heart of the defence after being rested against Rayo.

Copenhagen (DEN) v Galatasaray (TUR)

Galatasaray won the first match 3-1 in Istanbul to put themselves in second spot in the table, five points behind Real but two ahead of Juve and three up on Copenhagen.

The Danes drew 1-1 with Juve and lost 4-0 at Real Madrid while Galatasaray recovered from their opening 6-1 drubbing to the Spaniards to draw 2-2 with Juventus in Roberto Mancini's first game as coach.

Copenhagen's home record in the tournament gives some cause for optimism -- in eight matches, they have lost only to Chelsea and have beaten Manchester United and drawn with Barcelona in previous years.

For Galatasaray, Copenhagen holds special memories -- in 2000, a Fatih Terim-led team overcame Arsenal on penalties in the UEFA Cup final.

Group C

Paris Saint Germain (FRA) v Anderlecht (BEL)

The French side can qualify for the knockout stages for the second successive year with victory over an Anderlecht team they walloped 5-0 in their previous encounter a fortnight ago to make it three impressive wins from three games in an admittedly easy group.

The only good news for Anderlecht is that there are doubts over whether Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored four in the first match, will be fit as he was rested for the 4-0 Ligue 1 win over Lorient last Friday -- extending PSG's unbeaten Ligue 1 run to 23 -- with an inflamed knee.

Anderlecht are searching for their first point and first goal of the campaign while their last away win in the Champions League came in the 2005/06 season at Real Betis.

Olympiakos (GRE) v Benfica (POR)

A lot at stake in this match as with both on four points, and Anderlecht on zero, they are battling for the runners up spot and a place in the last 16 or the third-place finish that guarantees a spot in the Europa League knockout stage, a competition in which the Portuguese outfit reached the final last season only to lose to Chelsea.

The sides drew 1-1 in Lisbon, and Olympiakos will be looking to repeat their 5-1 win the last time they hosted Benfica in the Champions League in the 2008/09 campaign.

Three Benfica players remain from that thumping including striker Oscar Cardozo, who was only on the bench that night but will be hoping to lead the line on Tuesday. Similarly Kostas Mitroglou should be up front for the hosts and eager to add to his tally of goals, having earlier this term become the first Greek player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League, admittedly against the porous Anderlecht defence.

Group D

Manchester City (ENG) v CSKA Moscow (RUS)

City made heavy weather of beating the Russian outfit a fortnight ago in a match overshadowed by a racism controversy but look in sharper form after a 7-0 demolition of Norwich on Saturday, their biggest win in the top flight since 1968.

Victory over the Russians would all but assure them of reaching the knockout stages for the first time after two flops under Roberto Mancini.

The Italian's successor, Chilean Manuel Pellegrini showed his ruthless side when he dropped Joe Hart from the Norwich game and Romanian Costel Pantilimon may well keep his place for the CSKA game.

City's talismanic central defender and captain Vincent Kompany is still struggling with a thigh injury and missed the Norwich game. CSKA come into the game on the back of a come from behind 2-1 win over Volga with impressive Ivorian striker Seydou Dumbia on the scoresheet.

Viktoria Pilsen (CZE) v Bayern Munich (GER)

The Germans are proving as unbeatable as PSG are, their 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday equalling the Bundesliga record for the longest unbeaten run, levelling the 36 matches unbeaten Hamburg achieved between January 1982 and January 1983.

Victory on Tuesday, and CSKA failing to win at City, will see the holders qualify for the last 16.

However, not all is rosy in the Munich camp as they are still struggling to impose themselves early in their matches.

"Obviously it's not such a wonderful situation," said Mario Goetze, who caused Pilsen all sorts of problems once he came on in the second-half of their match a fortnight ago, which ended in an easy 5-0 win for the German side.

Pilsen have an impressive home record in the competition winning 10 out of 11 before City beat them this season.

Bayern, though, are closing in on their record of successive away wins in the competition, six on their way to winning the 1996 title, as victory on Tuesday would be their fifth in a row.

Patrice Evra has told France’s Telefoot that he won’t sign a new contract with Manchester United this summer due to ‘personal reasons’.

The 32-year-old’s current deal expires in June and there had not been any public indication that a new deal would be agreed, something which Evra has explained is to do with own reasons rather than the club not wanting to offer him one.

When questioned about whether he is bothered about his contract expiring in June 2014, Evra replied: ”No, not at all. It’s personal.

“It’s not Manchester (United) that don’t want me to sign a new contract. This whole thing is personal. Manchester United’s dream is that I finish my career there, but this is something personal.”

Now is the right time for Evra to leave Old Trafford. He was consistently one of our best players for a long time but is now sometimes a liability in his position instead of his old, reliable self. So long as David Moyes keeps him until the summer and isn’t contemplating letting him depart in January, then it is the right thing to do.

A move back to Monaco, where he joined United from in 2006, would seem the logical place for Evra to go if he is to continue his football career and fitness wise, there is no reason why he cannot still play 30+ games a season.

Evra’s admission that he won’t sign a new contract goes some way to explain Moyes’ relentless pursuit of Leighton Baines and he will likely rekindle that chase this summer but at 29, is he the right man to replace Evra in the long term?

Winning and losing is part of sport. Certain defeats can be difficult to digest. Saturday’s result at Mohali was one of such.

There was no way India should have lost that match (India vs Australia).

To let go one winning opportunity is perhaps understandable but India were in control throughout the Australian innings and it was a combination of one over by a part timer, another horrid over towards the end and poor planning by the captain, that in the ultimate analysis, led to a defeat, a result which is hard to accept.

Yes, limited overs cricket is known for its twists and turns and very little can be predicted it these matches. But surely when 130 runs are required in 13 overs with five wickets in hand, it is a clear winning position for the fielding side. Again with 66 required from five overs at 13.2 an over with four wickets in hand, the screws have been tightened on the batting side that much more and when 44 runs are required from 18 balls at 14.66 an over, it surely is all over bar the shouting. But perhaps, it is not so when it comes to Indian bowlers – and captains.

A lot has been said and written about the failure of the bowlers and they have been rightly taken to task. A cricket team that concedes over 200 runs in a T-20 international and follows this up by being hammered for over 300 runs in three consecutive ODIs matches, is clearly asking for trouble. It means nothing if you have the best batting line-up in the contemporary game along with the worst bowling combination.

Even in limited overs cricket, like in Test matches, it's the bowlers who win matches. What happened at Jaipur in the second ODI was an aberration. The first game at Pune was more in keeping with the norm. The Australians batted admirably and then the bowlers backed them up by restricting the formidable Indian batting.

For years now, the most lustrous batting line-up in the world has seen to it that India are able to hold their own in international cricket. The bowling despite the efforts of Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh has presented problems and now with two of the quartet having retired, and two clearly past their best, it has reached crisis levels.

It was hoped following his impressive debut in Australia in 2007-08 that Ishant Sharma would be the great big hope, but the lad first stagnated and now has reached the point of no return.

Rohit Sharma has played 36 T20 Internationals and averages 28 without a single century to his credit. That isn’t much in a team where most Indian batsman average 30+. He hasn’t done much to cement a permanent place in the T20 team.

From 2007-12, Rohit played a whopping 86 ODI matches, barely averaging 30 (Both MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli average around 50) with a low strike rate of 78 and just one measly century against a Top 8 team. That’s also not enough for a permanent place.

Once former India coach Greg Chappell had said that all youngsters should be given at least 30 ODIs before being discarded for good. That was almost 30 ODIs three times over for Rohit.


It is safe to say that had Rohit (who was increasingly gaining nicknames like “No-hit Sharma” at that stage) been retired at the end of 2012, then no-one would have been able to say anything.



His performance was marginally better in the IPL where he would dazzle in flashes, but till 2012, he was never in the Top 5 batsman of the tournament, let alone being the Orange Cap winner in any season. That’s why Deccan Chargers let go of him and he joined the Mumbai Indians.

But with a First Class average of 60 and the talent that all the commentators claimed he had coupled with the endless chances that he had been given, he was on the verge of being a colossal failure.

Then 2013 happened.

Captain MS Dhoni threw Rohit a lifeline by making him an ODI opener at the very beginning of the year. It seemed a strange move at that time, but in that position, Rohit has scored 763 runs at an average of 51 with one century and five half-centuries!

In his very first match in his new role, Rohit hit 83 versus England in Mohali. He had arrived as an ODI opener. Then in the ICC Champions Trophy he was India’s No. 2 run getter and played an integral role in our victory.

Rohit has become much more consistent off late and in the second ODI versus Australia in the current series, he helped us chase an Indian record victory target of 360 with a fine 141 off 123 balls. Virat Kohli scored the fastest century ever by an Indian, but Rohit walked away with the man of the match award.

Looks like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have retired as ODI openers and who would have thought Rohit would have a hand in that!

2013 has been Rohit’s best year as ODI and IPL batsman and he has the added honour of Mumbai Indians’ captaincy.

It appears to be a matter of time before Rohit enters the Test team. He has been in the squad without playing a single match, but with so many retirements in the last 1-2 years, it’s just a matter of time.

Till 2012, both Sir Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit were the butt of jokes all over the social networking sites and one must say that the year has turned it around for both of them.

Jadeja has emerged as a fine all-rounder and became the ICC No. 1 ODI bowler.

Rohit on the other hand emulated MS Dhoni in winning the IPL and Champions League in the same year and has formed a match-winning ODI opening pair with the explosive Shikhar Dhawan.

What next? Filling Sachin’s slot in the Test team after the latter’s retirement?
