Career Happiness Should Be at the Top of Your List in 2014

At the end of each year, we all hope that the next one will be happier, more exciting, and perhaps, more successful.

However, if January comes and you return to your office feeling drained after half an hour, what has actually changed for you? If this is the case, and if you don't initiate any substantial career change, a new leaf on the calendar means absolutely nothing.

Now, let's imagine a different scenario. It is January and you feel the holiday was far too long and you can't wait to get back to work-whether a company employs you or you run your own business. If you are unhappy at work, you probably don't believe such enthusiasm exists; but trust me, it does.

What is standing between situation 1 and situation 2? Nothing more than a decision. At any point, you can decide that you have had enough of your "old working style" and that you are going to find a way to make your career fun, engaging, interesting and personally fulfilling.

To make that decision can be the most difficult part of the process, therefore allow me to give you some tips to help you along.

1.) Working with a coach can be a life-changing experience. If you are hesitant to try the process, talk to friends or colleagues who worked with a coach previously. I can assure you that if you find the right person, you will find coaching fun, supportive and encouraging. You will also get the desired results faster.

2.) If you feel that coaching is not for you, invest in a book that describes the process of a career change in easy and precise steps. Authors of such books usually worked with lots of people in similar situation to yours, thus they are a trusted source of knowledge and wisdom.

3.) If you still find such commitment daunting, you can perhaps start with reading articles about other "career change success stories". These days, you can find them in every magazine; that is your proof that such change is indeed very realistic and possible. Inspiration is known to be an excellent catalyst for a long-desired change and ambition.

I really hope that you will follow-up on my recommendations and that you will make your 2014 special. Make it a year when you create a vision of yourself as a "super-happy in my career" person and then step into those shoes.
